Pinguicula (Butterworts) are carnivorous plants that use their specialized, leaves to lure, capture, and digest prey. The leaves of the pinguicula produce an attractant that lures insects to its leaves. The leaves will trap and digest the insect with a mucousy substance. Pinguicula can be found in temperate climates, but a large quantity of pinguicula also come from Mexico!

 

Specific:

Pinguicula ‘John Rizzi’ is a pinguicula that turns pink if given enough light. It is suited to growing under growlights or under a nice and sunny windowsill. Pinguicula can be a suitable beginner plant if the right care instructions are followed. We grow these butterworts in the same manner as our Drosera, whose care instructions seen here. This plant will be roughly ~8cm in diameter and is recommended to be grown in a 6.35cm (2.5″) pot or larger.
