Sarracenia Care Instruction Basics
Wondering how to take care of Sarracenia (North American Pitcher Plants)? Start here:

Watering
Sarracenia should always be moist. Use the tray method! Fill a tray with 0.5″ (1.27cm) to 1″ (2.54cm) of water and place the plant in the tray. When the tray dries up refill it with water.
How much sunlight do Sarracenia need?
Full sun is required for robust growth and full colors.
Do North American Pitcher plants need Fertilizer ?
Plants outside catch ample prey, even filling up to the brim with insects. Mild organic fertilizers are beneficial to use for the soil and pitchers of the plants. Most plants grow fine only subsisting on insects.
How Much Humidity Do Sarracenia Pitcher Plants Need?
Average relative humidity such as the level found in a house and the extra humidity provided by the tray method works best.
When Should I Repot My Sarracenia Pitcher Plant?
Repot in the tail end of winter nearing spring, after the plant goes dormant. Divisions can be taken at this time.
What Kind of Soil Should I Use for a North American Pitcher Plant?
Tolerant of most water-retaining media devoid of nutrients. Popular media include peat moss, long-fibre sphagnum moss, horticultural sand, and perlite mix.
Notes
Sarracenias have a winter dormancy where the plant’s leaves die back and only the bulb remains. When dormant water less and keep in a cool place with good ventilation to prevent rot. The plants require very little light in this period. Colder winters may require larger pots and mulching to increase cold resistance.
