Elio's Garden - Carnivorous Plants - Greater Vancouver

Drosera capensis

By far, it is the best beginner plant. This plant is a relative of the Venus Flytrap but is more forgiving in its care and can come back from the roots if it dies back (as long as it does not dry out). This plant is a great beginner plant for new carnivorous plant growers.

Nepenthes Ventrata

If you are looking for a pitcher plant the Nepenthes Ventrata is the easiest beginner tropical pitcher plant. It is very vigorous and forgiving of a variety of environmental differences.

Sarracenia purpurea

This species of Sarracenia is quite easy to care for in Canada. It is cold hardy to our winters and requires very little maintenance in the late fall to early spring. As long as this plant has water and lots of light it is a good start to happy healthy growth.

Nepenthes St. Gaya

Another easy pitcher plant, the St Gaya, is beautiful and grows rapidly. This makes the plant a treasured part of any collection. This plant also grows in various conditions which makes it forgiving to new growers just starting to dial in their environment.
